Check the release your listeners will receive.

A podcast RSS feed needs more than a plausible title and a file link. Build a release routine that checks the authoritative metadata, the approved recording, and the publicly retrievable output. This page turns feed evaluation into a small set of concrete editorial decisions.

Prepare the right episode record

Keep the approved title, summary, publication time, episode identity, and media reference together. Match the final recording to that record instead of choosing the most recent upload by memory. Record corrections and preserve enough context to distinguish an updated episode from a new release.

Verify against the intended destination

Apple’s requirements include a publicly addressable RSS 2.0 feed, artwork, and at least one episode. Use the linked official requirements for detailed platform checks. Other destinations may have their own acceptance process. A technical baseline is not a promise that every directory will approve or immediately display your show.

Inspect public output and corrections

Open the feed outside your publishing session and check the episode reference. Review the actual audio and the readable notes. When a correction is needed, change the authoritative record first, then inspect the feed and priority destinations. Keep a brief incident note that improves the next release instead of simply recording that something went wrong.

A common question

Does a validator catch every release mistake?

No. A structural check cannot decide whether the uploaded audio is the approved cut or whether a guest’s name is correct. Pair technical validation with editorial review.
